Job Description

Missions

As part of the ANR LAVAS project, the postdoctoral researcher will have access to an extensive, mostly unpublished, dataset from the Manta-Ray and Antithesis cruises , including: over 2,000 km of deep reflection seismic, chirp and bathymetric data. This dataset is located on both sides of the trench, the forearc, and the oceanic crust near fluid seep structures. Selected seismic lines will be reprocessed to characterize the tectonic evolution of the Lesser Antilles Subduction zone. A particular emphasis will be put on the investigation of physical heterogeneities that may reflect deep fluid accumulation; Fluid pathways along crustal faults and fluid migration through sedimentary deposits, from the trench to the inner forearc domain.

Activity

- Data Management: Finalize and enhance the compilation of datasets using specialized software such as QGIS, Kingdom Suite, and Petrel.
- Seismic Data Processing: Process selected deep and high-resolution seismic lines using QCsolid, Reveal, and Geovation, including depth migration for specific lines. Other approaches such as streamer tomography could be also considered.
- Research Dissemination: Author and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and actively participate in international workshops and conferences.
- Supervision and Mentoring: Supervise Master's internships and contribute to PhD student supervision.

Your Profil

Skills

- Education : hold a PhD in Marine Geophysics
- Scientific Expertise : Proven experience in subduction zone context and oceanic lithosphere geophysical imaging.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in seismic data processing and interpretation using the software mentioned previously (QGIS, Kingdom Suite, Petrel, QCsolid, Reveal, Geovation).
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Scientific Writing: Demonstrated experience in authoring scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork abilities and a collaborative mindset.

Your Work Environment

The successful candidate will be based at the Géoazur Laboratory (UMR7329) in Valbonne (06), near Nice, France and work in close collaboration with IFREMER (Brest, France) and the University of the Lesser Antilles (Guadeloupe, France). Géoazur is a multidisciplinary joint research unit affiliated with four institutions (Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS, IRD, and the Côte d'Azur Observatory), which hosts 220 personnel (researchers, engineers, PhD students, etc.). The laboratory brings together geophysicists, geologists, and astronomers to address major scientific challenges, including: earthquakes (seismic, gravitational, and tsunami-related), associated risks, lithosphere dynamics, Earth imaging, Geodesy and metrology of the Earth and the nearby Universe.
The successful candidate will join the "Marine Geosciences, Observations, and Innovative Imaging" team, which focuses on oceanic and continental margin research and comprises around 30 permanent and non-permanent researchers. The research will be supervised by: Mireille Laigle (laigle@geoazur.unice.fr), Boris Marcaillou (marcaillou@geoazur.unice.fr) and Frauke Klingelhoefer (klingelhoefer@ifremer.fr). The candidate will also collaborate with the ANR LAVAS consortium, particularly with partners in Brest (IFREMER) and Guadeloupe (University of the Lesser Antilles).
