Job Description
Missions
As part of the ANR LAVAS project, the postdoctoral researcher will have access to more than 2000 km of deep reflection seismic data, as well as chirp and bathymetric data from the Manta-Ray and Antithesis cruises – most of them unpublished - located on both side of the trench, in the forearc and on oceanic crust near fluid seep structures. Selected seismic lines will be processed to characterize the tectonic evolution of the Lesser Antilles Subduction zone. A particular emphasis will be put on the investigation of physical heterogeneities, which could reflect deep fluid accumulation and/or fluid flow pathways along crustal faults and through the sedimentary deposits before and after the trench, up to the forearc inner domain.
Activity
The successful candidate will:
- Complete and improve the dataset compilation with dedicated software like QGIS, Kingdom Suite and Petrel.
- Process selected deep and high-resolution seismic lines using QCsolid, Reveal and Geovation and migrate some of them to depth.
- Write and publish paper in peer-reviewed journal, participate to international workshops and conferences, supervise MsC internships and participate to PhD supervision.
Your Profil
Skills
- Strong experience in the seismic processing and interpretation software mentioned in the previous section
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience in paper writing
- Excellent level in English
- Ability to work in a team
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will work at the Géoazur UMR7329 laboratory in Valbonne (06) near Nice, in close collaboration with IFREMER (Brest, France) and the Lesser Antilles University (Guadeloupe, France). The Géoazur laboratory is a multidisciplinary joint research unit affiliated to four institutions (Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS, IRD and the Côte d'Azur Observatory) and is composed of geophysicists, geologists and astronomers working together on major scientific issues: earthquakes (seismic, gravitational and tsunamis), associated risks, lithosphere dynamics, Earth imaging, geodesy-metrology of the Earth and the nearby Universe.
The lab includes 210 people (researchers, engineers, doctoral students, etc.) and is located on two sites: the Azur CNRS campus in Valbonne Sophia Antipolis, where the posdoc will be located, and the Calern-Caussols site of the Côte d'Azur Observatory.
The successful candidate will join the team “Marine Geosciences, Observations and Innovative Imaging” which focuses on scientific issues and data from the oceans and their continental margins, and comprises around 30 permanent and non-permanent researchers. The research will be supervised by Mireille Laigle (laigle@geoazur.unice.fr), Boris Marcaillou (marcaillou@geoazur.unice.fr), Frauke Klingelhoefer (klingelhoefer@ifremer.fr) and in collaboration with ANR LAVAS consortium, notably in Brest (Ifremer) and Guadeloupe (Université des Antilles).
