Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will join the Geosciences for Energy and Environment program at ISTO, within the Continental Biogeosystems group. This group focuses on quantifying and modeling the biogeochemical processes occurring in continental biogeosystems—complex environments subject to strong anthropogenic pressures, where spatial and temporal scales are closely interwoven.
The primary goal of the Continental Biogeosystems group is to understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes that govern the functioning and evolution of these environments. This research aims to model past, present, and future Climate-Human-Environment interactions.
As part of the group's activities on clay-rich environments, the postdoctoral researcher will conduct reactive transport simulations using the CrunchODiTi code, developed in partnership with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL, USA). The objective is to quantify hydrogeochemical couplings in these environments.

Activity

The position will contribute to several key aspects:
Literature review on hydrogeochemical couplings
Development of reactive transport modeling (RTM) and analysis of results
Implementation of benchmark exercises shared with the scientific community
Identification of missing code functionalities and corresponding mathematical formalisms for future integration into the code
The results are expected to be published in top-tier scientific journals in the field.

Your Profil

Skills

Applicants must hold a PhD in hydrogeochemistry with experience in numerical modeling using reactive transport codes. Knowledge of transport and reactivity properties in clay-rich environments is expected.
Strong writing and synthesis skills, demonstrated by scientific publications, are also required. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work collaboratively, demonstrate autonomy, and effectively communicate—both orally and in writing—with specialists and non-specialists.

Your Work Environment

The Institut des Sciences de la Terre d'Orléans (ISTO) is a joint research unit under the supervision of CNRS, the University of Orléans, and BRGM. Within the Geosciences for Energy and Environment program, the successful candidate will work under the supervision of Christophe Tournassat, a professor at the University of Orléans and a researcher at ISTO.
