Job Description

Missions

Development of ceramic formulations for microwave-assisted sealing of ceramic canisters for nuclear waste as part of the European EURAD2 project (https://www.ejp-eurad.eu/)

Activity

- Development of intimately mixed ceramic powders that may contain a glass phase - Preparation of colloidal suspensions and study of their stability
- Forming a green sealing joint from the intimately mixed powders
- Testing the effectiveness of microwave coupling to achieve localized, efficient, homogeneous, and rapid heating
- Physicochemical, microstructural, and mechanical characterization of the materials during the various stages of the process (multiscale characterization)

Your Profil

Skills

SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficiency in ceramic manufacturing processes (shaping, sintering, etc.).
- Material characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, dilatometry, rheology, etc.)
- Knowledge of materials chemistry
- Experience with laboratory equipment (furnaces, presses, etc.)

COMPUTER SKILLS
- knowledge of digital tools and data processing will be appreciated (Python, Matlab, advanced Excel)

OTHER - Fluency in scientific and technical English (written and spoken)
- Scientific writing (articles, project reports)
- Interpersonal and teamwork skills in an international setting.

Your Work Environment

The work will be conducted at the Ceramics Research Institute (IRCER, UMR 7315, CNRS/University of Limoges). IRCER (200 members) is the largest academic research laboratory in Europe in its field of specialization (the study and development of innovative processes related to ceramics). https://www.ircer.fr/ The position will be specifically assigned to the IRCER's “Innovative Ceramic Processes” team. Please note that this position is part of the European EURAD2 project (https://www.ejp-eurad.eu/). As such, the work will be conducted in a collaborative setting involving numerous European partners. Of particular note are close interactions with ANDRA (the French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management—coordinator of the EURAD2 project) and the École des Mines de Saint-Étienne (for aspects related to microwave sintering). This position falls under the Scientific and Technical Potential Protection (PPST) sector and therefore, in accordance with regulations, requires that your appointment be authorized by the competent authority at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MESR).
