Job Description
Missions
The recruited candidate will be responsible for developing materials and photocatalytic conditions for selective reactions, such as green hydrogen production or demethylation reactions from biomass.
Two approaches will be explored: heterogeneous photocatalysis using semiconductor nanoparticles (sensitized or not with grafted dyes) and homogeneous photocatalysis.
We are looking for a candidate capable of independently leading this project while working in close synergy with partners.
Activity
Activities:
Design and synthesis of photocatalytic materials
Development of semiconductor nanoparticles (sensitized or not with grafted dyes) and molecular systems for homogeneous photocatalysis.
Physico-chemical characterization
Structural, optical, and electronic analysis of materials (spectroscopies, microscopies, electrochemistry, etc.) to establish structure–property–activity relationships.
Development and optimization of reaction conditions
Optimization of photocatalytic protocols for selective reactions such as green hydrogen production or demethylation of biomass-derived substrates, focusing on yield, selectivity, and stability.
Investigation of reaction mechanisms and charge transfer processes to identify scientific bottlenecks and propose strategies for improvement.
Scientific project management
Planning experiments, analyzing results, writing reports and publications, and valorizing outcomes.
Collaborative work: coordination and regular interaction with academic and/or industrial partners, participation in consortium meetings, and contribution to project deliverables.
Your Profil
Skills
Photocatalysis and materials chemistry: expertise in heterogeneous and homogeneous photocatalysts, semiconductor nanoparticles, and dye grafting.
Materials characterization: spectroscopies (UV-Vis, IR, Raman…), microscopies (TEM, SEM), electrochemistry, and other relevant physico-chemical techniques.
Chemical process development: optimization of reaction conditions, analysis of yield and selectivity.
Mechanistic analysis: understanding charge transfer processes and reaction mechanisms in photocatalysis.
Your Work Environment
The position is based in a chemistry laboratory recognized for its work in energy storage and conversion. The integrated team is renowned for its research in photovoltaics and photocatalysis, combining fundamental science with applications such as green hydrogen production and biomass valorization.
The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, including chemists, physicists, and process engineers, with regular interactions to develop innovative and complementary approaches.
The environment encourages scientific autonomy, initiative, and responsibility, while providing a framework for the development of new photocatalytic materials and methodologies.
Access to advanced technical platforms (synthesis, characterization, electrochemistry, microscopy, and spectroscopy) enables a rigorous and innovative approach to both fundamental and applied questions. Collaborations are expected, particularly in the synthesis of promising materials and in spectroscopic techniques such as EPR (Electron Paramagnetic Resonance).
