Job Description
Missions
Within the framework of this project, the postdoctoral researcher will:
* develop new enantioselective synthetic strategies for the preparation of C(sp²)–C(sp³) atropisomers;
* design and optimize catalytic transformations enabling efficient stereochemical control;
* investigate the relationship between molecular structure and conformational stability of the newly synthesized atropisomers;
* apply the developed methodologies to the synthesis of natural product targets;
* analyze and disseminate research results through scientific publications and presentations at conferences.
The postdoctoral researcher will join a research team working in organic chemistry and will benefit from a stimulating environment combining organic synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, and natural product chemistry.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in the development of new enantioselective synthetic methodologies for the construction of C(sp²)–C(sp³) atropisomers.
The main activities will include:
* designing and performing organic synthesis experiments;
* optimizing reaction conditions and investigating the selectivity of the developed transformations;
* purification and characterization of the synthesized compounds using standard analytical techniques (NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, HPLC, chiral HPLC, etc.);
* analysis and interpretation of experimental data, as well as proposing new research directions;
* participating in scientific meetings within the research group and interacting with project collaborators;
* preparing scientific results for publication and presenting research findings at scientific conferences.
Your Profil
Skills
Applicants should hold a PhD in organic chemistry or a related field.
A strong background in organic synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, and structural characterization of organic molecules (NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, chiral HPLC, etc.) is expected.
Experience in stereochemistry, natural product synthesis, or methodology development will be highly appreciated.
The candidate should demonstrate scientific independence, creativity, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative research environment.
Your Work Environment
Atropisomerism is a specific form of stereoisomerism arising from restricted rotation around a single bond. This concept has become increasingly important in modern organic chemistry, particularly in pharmaceutical development, chiral ligand design, and functional materials.
While major advances have been achieved in the enantioselective synthesis of C(sp²)–C(sp²) atropisomers, the controlled construction of less common atropisomeric systems involving a C(sp²)–C(sp³) stereogenic axis remains a significant challenge. Such architectures are found in several natural products and often combine axial and central stereogenic elements, requiring the development of innovative synthetic strategies to achieve efficient stereocontrol and conformational stability.
The CANaP project aims to develop new synthetic approaches for the preparation of unprecedented families of enantioenriched and conformationally stable C(sp²)–C(sp³) atropisomers. The methodologies developed will subsequently be applied to the synthesis of natural products displaying this structural motif, including pegaharmols A and B and bisnicalaterine B.
Constraints and risks
The project involves the implementation of organic synthesis reactions requiring careful handling of potentially hazardous chemical compounds (reactive reagents, organic solvents, metal-based catalysts, or organocatalysts). All experimental work will be conducted in strict accordance with the laboratory's health and safety regulations.
The main scientific challenges of the project are related to the development of new enantioselective synthetic methodologies and the control of the conformational stability of C(sp²)–C(sp³) atropisomers. The postdoctoral researcher will need to demonstrate adaptability and creativity to optimize reaction conditions and overcome challenges related to substrate reactivity and stereoselectivity.
The position requires regular laboratory work and the ability to analyze and interpret experimental results within an exploratory research framework.
