Job Description
Missions
A fixed-term contract for an Engineer (M/F) is available at the Institute of Molecular Sciences of Marseille (iSm2, UMR 7313) as part of a project funded by the PEPR BBEST. The start date is scheduled for spring-summer 2026.
The project focuses on a copper metalloenzyme in the context of the valorization of recalcitrant biomass for applications in bio-based chemistry and the bioeconomy.
The candidate will carry out the heterologous production of enzymes in E. coli as well as their characterization using conventional biochemical techniques. He/she will also prepare mutants by directed mutagenesis.
Activity
The candidate will be involved in the following tasks:
• Molecular biology: construction of mutants, cloning.
• Production of recombinant proteins in E. coli.
• Protein purification: use of chromatographic techniques (FPLC), purity control, SDS-PAGE gels, characterization.
• Biochemical and functional characterizations: performing enzyme activity tests & spectroscopic analyses.
Your Profil
Skills
Highly motivated candidates (holders of a Master's degree or equivalent) with training in biology, microbiology, and/or biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Previous laboratory experience in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or any other field that may be useful to the project would be valuable but is not mandatory.
Your Work Environment
The project will be carried out as part of a project funded by France 2030 and PEPR B-BEST (PuLCO; ANR-24-PEBB-0009). The candidate will join the Biosciences group at iSm2 (Marseille), located on the Saint-Jérôme campus of Aix Marseille University. The group has extensive expertise in the study of metalloenzymes. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface between chemistry and biology.
