This post-doctoral research is part of the aesthetics axis of the LiPoL (Popular Literature of the Levant) ANR project and aims at studying poetry in the Arabic text of the Sîrat al-Malik al-Zâhir Baybars, a global corpus of about 4000 verses, in order to deepen and develop the work initiated by Georges Bohas and Katia Zakharia in the 2000s.
For further information on LiPoL : https://lipol.hypotheses.org/2
The post-doc researcher will contribute to the study of the presence of poetry in the Sirat Baybars and elaborate the results that can be drawn from this presence. In order to do so, he/she will participate to the analysis of the distribution of the poetic fragments that dot the text of the Sîra, investigate their possible links with typical situations, the formulas that introduce them as well as the characters who declaim them.
He/She will take an active part in the exploration of their intertextual and dialogical dimension and will endeavor to determine their origin (pure creation or borrowing from works belonging to the “classical” Arab poetic heritage: dîwân-s, works of adab, or other productions of popular literature).
He/She will contribute to the classification of poetic genres and their distribution in the Sîra, as well as their relationship to the context and their role in the economy of narrative, based on the study of themes, formulas and topicals.
He/She will collaborate in the dating, through poetry and poets cited, of the manuscripts of the different episodes of the Damascene tradition.
The candidate must have defended a PhD thesis on Arabic dialectology and/or Arabic popular literature and have a good knowledge of ancient Arabic poetry.
The post-doc fellow will join the research team of Axis 4 (Task 4.2: Poetry) of the LiPoL ANR project, coordinated by Mohamed Bakhouch, Professor of Ancient Arabic Literature at Aix-Marseille Université, and Bruno Paoli, Professor, Arab Studies Department, Université Lumière Lyon 2.
He/She will be part of the Languages, literature and linguistic team of IREMAM (UMR 7310), a unit of the Maison Méditerranéenne des Sciences de l'Homme, Aix-en-Provence.
