Job Description

Missions

You will contribute to the European project "EMC2 – The Evolutive Meshed Compact City", which aims to study the conditions for successfully requalifying and densifying the main roads of European suburban areas to implement a version of the 15-minute city adapted to these spaces. The project covers five European case studies: the Nice-Côte d'Azur and Lille-Roubaix-Tourcoing metropolitan areas in France, the Versilia area in Italy, and the cities of Vienna (Austria) and Gothenburg (Sweden).
The EMC2 project is in its final phase (closing November 30, 2026), and your main mission will be to support the production of project deliverables across its various Work Packages (WPs), with a focus on WP5. You will also contribute to project communication activities under WP7.

Activity

Within WP5, you will: help finalize technical reports on the French case studies of Drap (06) and Seclin (59); produce graphic elements (maps, tables, diagrams) and explanatory texts; support researchers in producing a scientific papers related to WP5 by creating appropriate infographics; focus on developing infographics based on pattern language. You will also compile, format, and archive research data and reports (from the various WPs) in accordance with the EMC2 project's Data Management Plan.
As part of WP7's communication and dissemination activities, you will support the organization of an event for urban planning professionals, in collaboration with the urban planning agencies AUA and ADULM. You will also contribute to communication efforts surrounding this event.

Your Profil

Skills

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Urban Planning, or Architecture.
Analytical skills: Infographics, pattern language, geomatics (GIS and web-GIS), statistical and geostatistical analysis, digital cartography, data management plans.
Thematic skills: Urban analysis, urban morphology, 15-minute city urban planning.
General skills: Autonomy, rigor, and organizational skills; initiative; ability to understand the collaboration stakes between academic research and local stakeholders. Strong written and oral communication skills in French and English.

Your Work Environment

This position is part of the European research project "EMC2 – The Evolutive Meshed Compact City: A Pragmatic Transition Pathway to the 15-Minute City for European Metropolitan Peripheries", funded by the Horizon Europe "Driving Urban Transitions" call. The project is carried out by a consortium of four academic research units and five local authorities from four European countries: UMR ESPACE (CNRS – Université Côte d'Azur – Aix-Marseille Université – Avignon Université), Agence d'Urbanisme Azuréenne (AUA) and Agence d'Urbanisme de Lille Métropole (France), SMoG (Chalmers University of Technology) and the city of Gothenburg (Sweden), DESTeC (University of Pisa) and the cities of Massa and Viareggio (Italy), Department of Urban Design, University of Technology Vienna (Austria).
The EMC2 project is coordinated by Giovanni Fusco (UMR ESPACE), with support from Meta Berghauser Pont (SMoG), Valerio Cutini (DESTeC), Angelika Psenner (Urban Design), Laurence Jacquier (AUA), as leaders of the other funded partners.
You will work under the scientific direction of Giovanni Fusco, while coordinating with the leaders of the relevant WPs for your missions.
