Job Description
Missions
Research in medieval art history focusing on South Asia and Central Asia (all types of artistic and architectural works). Fieldwork in South Asia and Central Asia (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan), 3 weeks per year. Publication of articles and monographs related to the research field.
Activity
Research and study in the history of medieval art in archives and libraries in Aix-en-Provence, France, and across Europe. Data collection and creation of photographic databases. Monitoring the literature and contributing to the specialized collections of the research library. Fieldwork: in South Asia and Central Asia (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan), 3 weeks per year. Documentation and recording of objects and monuments with the project team.
Your Profil
Skills
At least an intermediate level of proficiency in the required research languages, such as Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit, and Indian vernacular languages; familiarity with relevant software, including (but not limited to) MS Word and Excel; and experience managing photographic databases.
Your Work Environment
Postdoctoral research position within the new research program titled “The Indo-Persian Continuum, ca. 11th–17th Centuries,” led by Alka Patel (Research Director, CNRS) and hosted at La3M (within the ARKAIA Institute of Archaeology, MMSH, at Aix-Marseille University, AMU). Research library with specialized collections (F. Bagherzadeh Collection, W. Trousdale Collection) Digital equipment suitable for the creation of online databases.
Constraints and risks
Fieldwork involving a significant risk of accidents at ground level, a risk of falls from heights, and risks associated with collapses and falling objects. Risks associated with computer work.
