Missions

Recruited by the CNRS, the researcher will work on a research programme focusing on the valorisation of glycerol through heterogeneous catalysis to produce higher value-added compounds.
The researcher will be responsible for:
1) Conducting tests using a reactor developed in the laboratory consisting of two electrodes, one connected to high voltage and the other to earth. The plasma discharge is generated by a sinusoidal power supply. The two electrodes are separated by a dielectric material and a layer of water containing glycerol.
2) Synthesis and characterisation of catalytic materials.
3) Conducting a parametric study to optimise the composition of the catalyst and comparing it with data from the literature, particularly in terms of energy efficiency.
4) Drafting publications.

Activités

The research programme consists of completing a laboratory study that showed it was possible to obtain dihydroxyacetone and glycolic acid under plasma discharge from a highly diluted glycerol solution.
The tasks assigned will be:
- Synthesis of catalytic materials
- Characterisation of solids using the various techniques available in the laboratory: XRD, ATD-ATG, Raman, SEM, TEM, RTP, etc.
- Carrying out catalytic tests and analysing the results
- Calculating energy efficiency - Drafting reports/publications - Presenting the results

Compétences

PhD in heterogeneous catalysis and plasma.
Proficiency in experimental setups
Physicochemical characterisation
Drafting of work progress reports
Fluent in English

Contexte de travail

The IC2MP is an interdisciplinary institute in Chemistry and Geosciences comprising 280 people based on the science campus of the University of Poitiers. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the laboratory's 'catalysis and unconventional environment' team. The researcher will report to a university professor and will have access to all the experimental resources needed to carry out their research in accordance with the required safety conditions.
