Missions

The objective of this work is to explore the conversion of phenolic monomers formed during lignin depolymerization assisted by catalytic hydrogen transfer. The valorization of lignin into bio-based compounds such as partially or fully deoxygenated hydrocarbons and aromatics is of great interest to the chemical industry. The transformation of lignin-derived phenolic molecules under mild conditions represents a major challenge, which can be addressed through the development of suitable catalysts and the optimization of operating conditions. This project aims to investigate the catalytic conversion of phenolic monomers via the catalytic hydrogen transfer process in both gas and liquid phases. The main objectives of the study will be the design of catalysts and the understanding of their catalytic properties. A rigorous investigation of reaction kinetics and mechanisms will be carried out in order to optimize the process conditions.
The methodology to achieve the objectives of this project will involve the optimized synthesis of supported metal catalysts based on non-noble transition metals, which will be thoroughly characterized using several techniques. All experimental tools for the preparation, activation, and characterization of the catalysts will be available within the research team and at the PLATINA characterization platform of IC2MP. Catalytic studies will be conducted in fixed-bed and batch reactors under variable pressure and temperature conditions. Reaction products will be quantified by gas chromatography.

Activités

- Synthesis and characterization of supported metal catalysts
- Implementation of catalytic reactions
- Kinetic and mechanistic studies of the reactions

Compétences

The candidate recruited at CNRS must hold a PhD in Catalysis and have expertise in the synthesis and characterization of catalytic nanomaterials, as well as in heterogeneous catalysis. The candidate is expected to demonstrate initiative, ability to work collaboratively within a team, and strong skills in presenting and analyzing results, both in written and oral form.

Contexte de travail

This research will be conducted at CNRS within the Institut de Chimie des Milieux et Matériaux de Poitiers (IC2MP), located at the University of Poitiers, France (https://ic2mp.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/). IC2MP is a joint research unit between the University of Poitiers and CNRS, focusing on the development of sustainable process and products. Within this project, the candidate will join the SAMCAT team (“From Active Site to Catalytic Materials”), which conducts research on the development of catalytic and electrocatalytic materials for applications in energy, environmental, and fine chemicals. The candidate will have full access to the IC2MP analytical platform (PLATINA), which includes all major equipment required for thorough characterization of the prepared catalysts. In addition, the institute provides all necessary analytical tools for the identification and quantification of reaction products.

Contraintes et risques

Standard chemical risks. The candidate will be subject to the laboratory's internal rules and health and safety rules.
