Job Description

Missions

A postdoctoral position (M/F) in functional genomics is available in the Röttinger team (https://ircan.org/en/research/eric-rottinger) at the Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging, Nice (IRCAN). The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, international and multidisciplinary environment and will conduct research to decipher the role of telomeres in response to temperature variations in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis. This project is part of a collaboration funded by the ANR, which more broadly aims to understand telomere dynamics in response to thermal effects in cnidarians.

As part of this position, the successful candidate will lead the project, experiments and analyses on the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis. The candidate, under the direct supervision of the team leader, will be responsible for coordinating the project's research axis in close interaction with collaborators and other lab members working on related projects. This includes all aspects of the tasks associated with the project, such as shared duties, animal care, laboratory experiments, and data analysis/interpretation

Activity

The recruited person will be responsible for:
• Developing molecular and genetic tools
• Designing, cloning, synthesizing, and microinjecting the components required for functional analyses
• Phenotypic analysis using microscopy, cytometry, and transcriptomic approaches

Your Profil

Skills

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative candidate (M/F) with the following qualifications, skills and expertise:
Required qualifications:
• Strong scientific experience in molecular and cell biology
• Strong experience in developmental biology and animal physiology
• Demonstrated scientific rigor, organizational skills and team spirit
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals
• Ability to write and contribute to the writing of scientific manuscripts
Desired qualities:
• Fluent communication in English (spoken and written)
• Experience in functional genomics and associated approaches (e.g. molecular biology, transcriptomics, CRISPR/Cas9, light-sheet microscopy, FISH)
• Scientific background in the biology of marine / non‑model organisms
• Experience in the care and experimental use of animals (marine invertebrates)
• Success in obtaining external funding

Your Work Environment

The team is part of the Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging, Nice (IRCAN – www.ircan.org/), which was created in 2012 at the Nice Faculty of Medicine. IRCAN is affiliated with CNRS, INSERM and Université Côte d'Azur. IRCAN is also part of the Federative Research Institute – Marine Resources (IFR MARRES), created by Université Côte d'Azur in 2020. Research carried out at IRCAN covers major areas of biology, from basic research to medical applications, with the aims of improving our understanding of the common ground between aging and cancer and of developing innovative strategies to prevent and cure cancer and chronic age‑related diseases.

The Röttinger team draws inspiration from the intriguing biological characteristics of cnidarians (e.g. corals, sea anemones, etc.), such as their resistance to stress, their ability to regenerate the whole body, and their extended lifespan. Using complementary expertise together with state‑of‑the‑art facilities and approaches, the main research of the interdisciplinary team aims to:
A) Characterize the tissue, cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying whole‑body regeneration in cnidarians.
B) Understand the cellular, molecular and genetic bases of adaptation to environmental variation and stress responses in cnidarians.
C) Determine how cnidarians prevent aging and aging‑related diseases.
