Job Description
Missions
The project aims to deepen our understanding of how background K2P channels, which underlie the leak potassium current, influence the hippocampal network through an innovative photopharmacological approach. These channels play an essential role in regulating neuronal excitability, particularly within the hippocampus, a key brain region for memory and cognition.
By using photosensitive compounds designed to modulate K2P channel activity in response to light, this project will provide unprecedented spatial and temporal control over these channels. This methodology will help define the role of K2P channels in memory and cognition, as well as their potential therapeutic implications in neurological disorders such as schizophrenia.
Activity
The activity associated with the position is part of a research project aimed at better understanding the role of K2P potassium channels in the regulation of neuronal excitability and the functioning of hippocampal networks. The work will focus on the use of innovative electrophysiological, single-molecule, and photopharmacological approaches, enabling the activity of these channels to be controlled by light with high spatial and temporal precision.
The position will involve carrying out experiments designed to analyze the impact of K2P channel modulation on neuronal activity, the properties of hippocampal networks, and processes associated with memory and cognition. This work will contribute to defining the mechanisms by which leak potassium currents participate in the control of brain activity.

Your Work Environment
The iBV is an internationally recognized research institute for its work in basic research in developmental biology, cell biology, genetics, and signaling, as well as for its translational research on several diseases, including metabolic disorders, cancer, neuronal diseases, kidney diseases, reproduction, and bone regeneration.
The aim of the Institute is to understand the fundamental principles governing the development and function of normal cells, tissues, and embryos, as well as the mechanisms leading to pathogenesis. To achieve this goal, the Institute addresses broad biological questions, including cell communication through major signaling pathways — PI3K, Wnt, Hh, JNK, Jak/Stat, Notch, Fas, FGF, TGF-beta, small GTPases, integrins, etc. — cell and tissue growth, metabolism, body patterning, cell death, cell-matrix interactions, cell differentiation, stem cells, morphogenesis, cell polarity, intracellular trafficking, neurogenesis, physiology, reproduction, cancer, and evolution.
Overall, iBV research groups use a wide range of model systems, including yeast, nematodes, Drosophila, sea urchins, zebrafish, mice, human cell lines, and patient-derived samples.
Finally, in support of research projects, the iBV maintains and develops six state-of-the-art technological platforms covering biochemistry and molecular biology, bioinformatics, cytometry, genetic code expansion, histology, and imaging.
