Job Description

Missions

The project's primary objective is to create a new material capable of preventing and treating infections. This addresses infectious problems encountered in packaging or production within the food industry, the cosmetics industry, and the medical sector (human and animal health). Bacteria and fungi are major problems in these sectors, and antibiotics and antifungals are becoming less effective, particularly due to the development of resistance mechanisms by these pathogens.
The project focuses on simple approaches using 100% natural products that are combined without any chemical processes to form antimicrobial materials. The coating combines functionalized nanoclusters with natural biopolymers.

Activity

The researcher's main tasks will be:
- Literature review
- Synthesis of nanoclusters functionalized with various active agents
- Study of their physicochemical properties
- Coordinating with collaborators—microbiologists and chemists specializing in modeling—regarding the research interface, samples, and results
- Preparing for meetings and drafting meeting minutes
- Writing scientific articles and presenting research findings at conferences and seminars

Your Profil

Skills

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who will be fully involved in a multidisciplinary project ranging from chemical synthesis to in vitro and even in vivo biological experiments. Desired profile: i) Ph.D. in nanomedicine or nanoparticle chemistry, ii) expertise in the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles/nanoclusters, iii) English fluent.

Your Work Environment

The Reactions and Process Engineering Laboratory (LRGP) is a Joint Research Unit of the CNRS and the University of Lorraine. It is located in Nancy, France's second-largest student city. It is primarily situated in the city center, on the campus of the National School of Chemical Industries of Nancy (ENSIC). The research laboratory is a leading chemical and process engineering laboratory in France and worldwide (18 CNRS researchers, 82 faculty members, 43 technical and administrative staff, as well as 180 temporary staff: contract researchers, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and master's students). The Bioprocesses and Biomolecules Group is part of the laboratory and possesses internationally recognized expertise in bioprocesses, both experimentally and in terms of modeling.
The project is funded by the ANR. In addition to the LRGP, the consortium includes U1121 Bioengineering and Biomaterials, which is responsible for biological evaluation, and UMR ITODYS (Interfaces, Processes, Organization, and System Dynamics), which is responsible for modeling at various scales.
We offer: multidisciplinary training and training using state-of-the-art research equipment, as well as opportunities to participate in national and international schools, conferences, and workshops.
This position falls under the Scientific and Technical Potential Protection sector and therefore, in accordance with regulations, requires that your appointment be authorized by the competent authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
