Job Description
Missions
The technician will be responsible for preparing sediment samples from a lacustrine context for geochemical, palynological, and fire signal analyses, and will participate in micro-charcoal counting under the supervision of subject specialists. They will be based at the CEPAM laboratory in Nice (France), working in close collaboration with the postdoctoral researcher hired for the project, with the CEPAM “FORÊTS” team, and with our partners at the Climate and Environmental Sciences Laboratory (LSCE), Chrono-Environnement, Edytem, and the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Activity
• Sub-sampling of lacustrine sediment samples.
• Preparation of pollen slides, sieving and counting of micro-charcoal particles
• Drafting of analytical reports
• Participation in team meetings and dissemination activities (presentations and publications of results)
Your Profil
Skills
Knowledge
• Geoarchaeology, sedimentology, palynology, or fire signal analysis
• General knowledge of palaeolimnology
• Understanding of laboratory safety and hygiene regulations
Technical Skills
• Laboratory experience in geoarchaeology, sedimentology, or paleoecology
• Prior experience with sediment processing protocols for pollen slide preparation or micro-charcoal sieving is desirable
• Scientific writing skills
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
Interpersonal Skills
• Strong interest in laboratory work
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to report on work progress
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
Your Work Environment
We are recruiting a technician (M/F) to join the archaeological and palaeoecological project PAST-FORCE (ANR-24-CE27-2043 PAST-FORCE), which aims to reconstruct socio-environmental dynamics in the southern Maya lowlands (Guatemala) during the pre-Columbian period (1500 BCE – 1500 CE). Laboratory experience in archaeology or geology/earth sciences is desirable.
