Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will be in charge of integrating data that derive from morphological analyses of fossil remains yielded at the site of Sterkfontein (South Africa) and collected within the frame of the project « Looking for Human Origins in Southern Africa » (LHOSA) together with their spatial coordinates for testing the hypothesis of diachronic variation and taxonomy.
Activity
-Establish a GIS-integrated database that incorporates diverse biological and spatial data
-Generate graphic illustrations of the distribution of fossil remains
-Develop and apply qualitative and quantitative statistical analyses for testing hypotheses of hominin diachronic variation and taxonomic heterogeneity at Sterkfontein
-Present results to the research group, laboratory and at international conferences
-Write scientific papers
Your Profil
Skills
-PhD in archaeology or paleontology
-Proficiency in three-dimensional geographical information systems and spatial analyses
-Knowledge in southern African Plio-Pleistocene cave contexts
-Experience in the assessment and analysis of paleontological data
-Ability to work independently while being an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
-Strong problem-solving skills and capability to propose innovative solutions
-Excellent communication skills in English, written and verbal
Your Work Environment
The postdoctoral researcher (M/F) will work at the Paleontology, Evolution, Paleoecosystems, Paleoprimatology Laboratory (UMR 7262, University of Poitiers & CNRS) and collaborate closely with Dominic Stratford, director of the Sterkfontein research team and member of the LHOSA project (University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa). They will be part of the research team led by Amélie Beaudet in PALEVOPRIM and dedicated to the study of the biology of fossil hominins from southern Africa. As a team member, they will be asked to attend bi-monthly meetings, present their work at international conferences and contribute to research activities within the laboratory.
