Missions
Unit Name: Insect Biology Research Institute (IRBI) UMR 7261 CNRS – University of Tours
Job Description: The candidate will work at the CNRS and IRBI as part of the idemo Frenchfly project. The project involves studying the mechanisms of reproduction to identify key steps and quantify molecules (proteins) and gene expression that promote male fitness in the black soldier fly (BSF).
Team Description: The postdoc researcher will work within the IMIP team: Interactions between Insects, Microbes, and Plants at IRBI and will also collaborate closely with the participants and partners of the Frenchfly project. He.She will work closely with an assistant and the coordinator.
Activités
The researcher will be tasked with finalizing the protein analysis conducted as part of the Biosexfly regional project by the INRAE Nouzilly proteomics platform. These analyses will enable them to identify genes likely to be transcribed in males and females before and after mating. They will share these results with SYSAAF (French Poultry and Aquaculture Breeders' Union) in order to integrate these candidate genes into genetic selection schemes for the black soldier fly.
Compétences
Candidates must have a good understanding of adult insect biology, particularly reproduction. They must have experience with insect breeding and be familiar with the necessary physical conditions (temperature, light, etc.). Scientific skills include proficiency in tools for studying proteomic and transcriptomic data, as well as the statistical tools required for their interpretation (R and packages).
Contexte de travail
The Insect Biology Research Institute (IRBI) is dedicated to analyzing the interactions between insects and their biotic and abiotic environment. The IRBI has a dynamic and vibrant staff of 27 permanent researchers/professors. The institute also relies on the expertise of numerous postdoctoral and contract researchers, as well as 18 doctoral students, for a total staff of 75. The IRBI regularly organizes scientific seminars on various insect-related topics.
Contraintes et risques
Some travel within France is expected.
Informations complémentaires
Desired Education Level: PhD in insect physiology or behavioral ecology.
Desired Experience: Experience in insect breeding, microscopy, behavioral data processing, and analysis and processing of proteomics and molecular biology data.
