The research engineer will join the SAFE AI research team, whose funds are managed by the CNRS and that counts 5 different laboratories. This Chair is the result of a partnership between the UTC innovation foundation, SOPRA/STERIA group and SCAI, the AI Sorbonne institute. The chair goal is to develop AI methods, and more specifically learning methods, who are robust to uncertainties in their deployment environment and can quantify predictive uncertainties. The chair also aims at testing those methods on real case studies issued from various domains such as industry (default or anomaly detection, …), health (diagnostic aid) or smart transport and cities.

The recruited candidate will play a key role in the chair, both in its scientific development and organisation. The candidate will work closely with the chair holder (Sébastien Destercke).


The recruited candidate will have three main roles :

• Interact with all the partners and provide support to them, notably by applying the chair results to case studies identified by the various partners. This application may converge to the development of software prototypes able to answer the application needs. As much as possible, they will be free software with open source codes.

• Assist the chiar holder (S. Destercke) in the scientific animation of the chair, by assuming a part of it. This will notably consist in organising professor visits, workshops and other events linked to the chair.

• Develop a research activity centred arount the chair main theme (safe AI), in coordination with the chair members. The recruited candidate will enjoy some autonomy to develop her/his own research themese linked to the chair.


The candidate will have to demonstrate strong skills in either computer science, machine learning and/or statistics, with ideally a strong expertise regarding the quantification and management of uncertainty. They will have to show, through past activities, a willingness to interact with other application domains.

The candidate will also prove their ability to communicate, in English and/or French. To these ends, the candidate will provide at least the following elements:

• CV

• A publication that is representative of the candidate work

Work Context

The candidate will be integrated to the Heudiasyc Laboratory, in the framework of the SAFE AI chair, and will work under the supervision of the chair holder (S. Destercke). They will have access to the laboratory installations (e.g., GPUs, …) and to the project fundings to ensure their mission (including travelling to conferences, buying laptops, …). The Heudiasyc laboratory is recognized for its skills in statistical/machine learning as well as its expertise regarding uncertainty management, as well as for its activities in more appied domains such as autonomous transports.

Beyond the laboratory means, the recruited candidate will have a key role within a well-funded project (~900K€), and will enjoy a multi-disciplinary scientific environment.
