Job Description
Missions
The researcher's mission will be to study, using numerical methods, nonlinear propagation in multimode optical fibers. These fibers may be solid-core or hollow-core. The researcher will be required to develop computational approaches to describe the propagation of light pulses in spatial (2D), temporal, and spectral dimensions. The impacts of disorder, the number of transverse modes, power, and duration of pump radiation will be analyzed. The researcher will also seek to demonstrate the impact of a high-energy pump wave on a weak wave through cross-modulation.
Activity
The main activity will be to develop and run numerical codes to describe the nonlinear propagation of optical waves in multimode fibers. These approaches will be linked to experiments conducted by another researcher in the laboratory. Thermodynamic approaches to light propagation will also be addressed in long, hollow-core multimode waveguides.
Your Profil
Skills
1) Mastery of computational approaches of nonlinear propagation in optical fibers
2) Knowledge of nonlinear Schrödinger-type equations in nonlinear materials
3) Knowledge of multimodal propagation in optical fibers
4) Mastery of second- and third-order optical nonlinear effects in silica fibers
5) Knowledges on numerical simulation of complex effects related to chaos and disorder.
Your Work Environment
This work will be carried out in Limoges at the XLIM UMR 7252 laboratory, within the Photonics research group and the Biophotonics team. This work is proposed within the framework of a European ERC Synergy 2025 project entitled "Multiprobe." The project aims to develop optical fibers enabling the development of a multimodal endoscopic system based on multicolored radiations. This research project is conducted with Italian partners in Rome (Sapienza University, Catholic University of Rome, Gemelli Institute).
