Job Description

Missions

The researcher's mission will be to study nonlinear propagation in multimode optical fibers. These fibers may be solid-core or gas- or liquid-filled. Coupled-core fibers will also be used. The researcher will also seek to demonstrate the impact of a high-energy pump wave on a weak wave through cross-modulation. This primarily experimental work will also focus on analyzing the radiation at the fiber output through the development of a modal decomposition system.

Activity

The main activity will be to set up an experimental system for nonlinear propagation in multimode fibers and to perform spatial, spectral, and temporal analyses of the radiation emitted from the fiber. This radiation can be used in experiments to measure linear and nonlinear effects such as:
1) The nonlinear refractive index of the fiber core
2) The intra-fiber disorder
3) The self-focusing process of the pump wave
4) The nonlinear frequency conversion
5) The self-selection of transverse modes

Your Profil

Skills

Skills in hollow core multimode optical fibers and silica-core fibers
Knowledge of multimodal propagation in optical fibers, in second (poling process) - and third-order optical nonlinear effects in silica fibers
Use of high-power laser sources
Proficiency in high-power optical radiation
Knowledge of numerical simulation of nonlinear effects
Knowledge of English

Your Work Environment

This work will be carried out in Limoges at the XLIM UMR 7252 laboratory, within the Photonics research group and the Biophotonics team. This work is proposed within the framework of a European ERC Synergy 2025 project entitled "Multiprobe." The project aims to develop optical fibers enabling the development of a multimodal endoscopic system. This research project is conducted with Italian partners in Rome (Sapienza University, Catholic University of Rome, Gemelli Institute).
