Job Description
Missions
The mission will be to develop a method for directly visualizing and quantifying the pheromone deposits left by ants during their foraging. These chemical signals play a central role in collective recruitment, but their quantity, spatial distribution, and evaporation remain poorly understood.
Activity
- development and optimization of the imaging device, based on quantitative phase imaging and automatic tracking.
- acquisition of experimental data.
- analysis of the signals to reconstruct spatio-temporal maps of pheromones.
Your Profil
Skills
Expected experience includes quantitative phase imaging and image analysis, in order to measure very low volume of transparent and volatile compounds. Skills in automatic tracking and basic opto-mechanics will be a plus. A willingness to work with live insects is required. Proficiency in English scientific writing is necessary.
Your Work Environment
The work will be carried out at the University of Limoges, within the XLIM laboratory. The mission is part of an INRIA-funded project titled "Empirical data and computational models to uncover the role of learning and communication in ant collective behaviour." The candidate will be supervised by the project leader, a biologist specializing in ants, within a biophotonics team at the forefront of quantitative phase imaging techniques.
