Job Description
Missions
The recruited researcher will develop and characterize new coherent Raman microscopy approaches for biomedical imaging, in particular stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and coherent Stokes Raman scattering (CSRS). The objective is to improve sensitivity, acquisition speed, and imaging capabilities for biological tissues, notably through the development of new instrumental and detection approaches. The work will combine experimental development, optical characterization, modelling, and imaging.
Activity
Design, construction, and optimization of coherent Raman microscopy systems.
Development and characterization of SRS and CSRS methods.
Implementation of ultrafast laser sources, scanning systems, detection, and data acquisition.
Development of new strategies to improve imaging sensitivity and speed.
Modelling and simulation of experiments, in particular using Matlab or Python.
Acquisition and analysis of data from reference samples and biological samples.
Interaction with other team members and collaborators in photonics and biomedical imaging.
Presentation and publication of scientific results.
Your Profil
Skills
PhD in physics, photonics, optics, physical chemistry, or a related field. Experience in experimental optics. Experience in microscopy, spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, or ultrafast lasers is particularly appreciated. Ability to design, build, and characterize optical experiments. Programming and data analysis skills, for example using Matlab or Python. Previous experience in coherent Raman microscopy is an advantage but is not required. Ability to work independently, experimental rigor, and ability to work in a team. Good command of scientific English. Knowledge of French is not required to start the position.
Your Work Environment
The position is based at the Fresnel Institute in Marseille, within the MOSAIC team, which develops new optical microscopy methods for biomedical imaging. The project is funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant sCiSsoRS, dedicated to the development of new coherent Raman microscopy approaches. The recruited researcher will have access to state-of-the-art photonics equipment, including ultrafast laser sources, microscopy systems, and fast detection devices. The researcher will work in an international and interdisciplinary environment combining photonics, physics, data processing, and biomedical applications.
Constraints and risks
The work includes experimental activities in an optics laboratory using class 4 lasers. Compliance with laser safety procedures and the use of appropriate protective equipment are mandatory. Specific training will be provided if necessary. Some experiments may involve the handling of biological samples in accordance with the laboratory's applicable safety procedures.
