Missions
The researcher will design and conceive all-dielectric metasurfaces. The first part of the project will consist in designing metasurfaces, and in particular metalenses. The second part will be devoted to the fabrication and characterization of the samples.
Activités
The main project of this work is first to design all-silica metalenses at a given operation condition (normal incidence and given wavelength). The design of the metalenses can be performed with in-house or commercial softwares. Several designs will be analysed in terms of focal distance and fabrication tolerances. In a second step, metalenses will be fabricated in a cleanroom and optically characterized in the lab.
Compétences
The candidate should have a strong experience in numerical modelling and/or fabrication of metasurfaces.
Appreciated experiences in :
-Numerical design of metasurfaces, commercial softwares e.g. Lumerical, PlanOpSim;
-Optical characterization, microscopy, spectroscopy
-Matlab, Python, LateX and other softwares will be appreciated.
Contexte de travail
Metasurfaces are very interesting optical components for tailoring light properties such as polarisation and phase. The concept of all-dielectric metasurfaces turns out to be particularly relevant for tailoring laser beams of high-energy lasers. Recent advances showed the possibility to fabricate full-silica metasurfaces acting as quarter waveplates with the ability to switch the linear polarization to circular polarization. The objective of this project is to design and fabricate full-silica metalenses with a well-controlled focus length.
The project will be carried out at the Institut Fresnel, Marseille, France, https://www.fresnel.fr/ within the Clarte team. The Clarte group of the Fresnel Institut has a strong expertise in the development of electromagnetic numerical methods and in the design and analysis of optical components and nanostructures. Institut Fresnel (about 200 persons in total) is a research laboratory associated to Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS and Centrale Méditerranée, located on the Campus Saint-Jérôme in Marseille.
