Missions

The candidate will be part of a research project aiming at understanding the link between the external mucus microbiota of teleost fish and the specificity of monogeneans (ectoparasites) for these teleost hosts. He/she will carry out his/her research work in the INTERMED laboratory, which focuses on biotic interactions in the marine environment.
In particular, the candidate will be responsible for studying changes in the microbiota linked to parasitic infestation in fish kept in aquariums. He/she will also be responsible for conducting behavioral and larval preference studies to understand the role of early monogeneans stages in parasite specificity mechanisms.

Activities

Develop and adapt experimental protocols on non-conventional marine models.
Maintain and monitor closed-circuit fish cohorts
Use a range of techniques to analyze biological samples (DNA and metabolite extraction, sequencing, PCR, microscopy, video tracking).
Conduct bioinformatics analyses to process large metabarcoding and metabolomics datasets
Maintain a scientific and technological watch in its field of activity
Participate in the dissemination and valorization of results in the form of oral presentations and scientific publications.

Skills

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in biology, with skills in microbiology, and/or aquariology, or related disciplines. The candidate will need to demonstrate autonomy while being a good team player and collaborator. We expect candidates to have expertise in bioinformatics, molecular biology and aquariology. Level 1 designer-animal experimentation on aquatic models is required.

Work Context

The INTERactions Marines - Évolution et aDaptation (INTERMED) team is part of the Biologie Intégrative des Organismes Marins (BIOM) laboratory, a joint research unit (UMR 7232) of Sorbonne University and the CNRS to Banyuls sur Mer (66). Its activities contribute to the understanding of non-conventional marine biological models, their biology, development and interactions.
