Job Description

Missions

The successful candidate will investigate the role of cerebral thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in neurodevelopment. While classically associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis and the regulation of thyroid hormone synthesis, TSH also acts within the brain via its receptor TSHR, whose role as a neuropeptide independent of the HPT axis remains largely unknown. This project aims in particular to explore the contribution of TSH to neurodevelopment in the context of congenital hypothyroidism, as well as to assess the impact of environmental pollutants on this signaling pathway.

Activity

Characterize the spatiotemporal expression of TSH and its receptor (TSHR) in the developing Xenopus brain (in situ hybridization and immunofluorescence)
Generate hypothyroid Xenopus embryos (pharmacological and/or CRISPR/Cas9 approach) and analyze TSH signaling
Study the direct effects of cerebral TSH on neurogenesis, neural circuit formation, and gene expression, via gain- and loss-of-function approaches
Evaluate the effects of environmental pollutant exposure on cerebral TSH signaling, by testing their impact on TSH/TSHR expression

Your Profil

Skills

PhD in endocrinology, neuroscience, developmental biology, or a related discipline
Practical experience with in vivo models highly valued
Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques: in situ hybridization, qRT-PCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry
Good written and oral communication skills in French and/or English
Autonomy, scientific rigor, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

Your Work Environment

The position is funded full-time for an initial period of 18 months. Compensation will follow institutional pay scales (CNRS). Presentation of results at scientific conferences is expected.
The postdoctoral researcher will join the RodEO team within the PhyMA research unit (Physiologie Moléculaire et Adaptation), a joint research unit of the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) associated with the CNRS (UMR 7221).
The unit, located in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, offers a stimulating scientific environment and state-of-the-art technical platforms (genome editing, confocal microscopy, CT scan)
