Missions
The hired person will join the Priority Exploratory Research Program and Equipment (PEPR Risques) team at ISP Nanterre-Saclay to conduct research within the RISC collective project ((Risks and Societies in global environmental changes era: challenges, knowledge and politics). RISC aims to respond to the challenges posed by ongoing global changes, which are exposing human societies to an unprecedented increase in risks and disasters linked to the combination of the impacts of climate disruption and human activities.
In close collaboration with the CNRS PI, he/she will contribute to original research work on knowledge and/or policies relating to global environmental risks in France, in particular by producing a state of the art report on existing knowledge, conducting research on a topic defined jointly with the program director, and contributing to the organization and scientific leadership of an international network of researchers on this topic of economical consequences of global warming. The person recruited will work in the humanities and social science (political science, sociology), and will be required to interact regularly with experts in geophysics and climate science. He/she will participate in project activities and contribute to the scientific valorization of results through communications and publications.
Activities
-Producing a scientific state of the art on how global environmental risks contributed to transform the economical context
-Mapping the actors who contributed to the new knowledge of the transformation of economical priorities after disasters
-Participating to the organization of scientific events;
-Participation to events with non academic actors such as citizen associations and groups, economic actors (insurance; business groups)
-Writing and publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals or books;
-Possibility of contributing to scientific and cultural public activities, in particular the design of podcasts on a book or current public debates on risks and disasters.
- Opportunity to contribute to cultural activities, including the design of podcasts books or on current debates;
Skills
-PhD in social science: Political Science, Sociology of economy, Science and Technology Studies (STS), political science, sociology, on environmental issues, risks and disasters, and/or on science and politics;
-Interdisciplinary interest in the scientific fields associated with PEPR RISQUES (geosciences, climate sciences, etc.);
-Experience in research on the topic of economy, actors, theory and relationships with actors of private field.
-Strong synthesis and writing skills;
-Rigor, sense of initiative and organization;
-Ability to work in a team and coordination capacity;
-Ability to interact with non-academic actors;
-Proficiency in written and spoken English and French; another language from the Mediterranean region is valuable.
-Skills in digital humanities will be appreciated.
Work Context
PEPR RISQUES (Integrated Risks Management for more resilient societies at the global changes era) is a Research program financed by the 4th programme d'avenir (PIA4) from France 2030. Its aim is to bring together teams involved in research on natural and technological risks. The program is co-piloted by the CNRS, the BRGM and UGA, and implemented in focus and open projects.
This postdoctoral position is linked to the focus project COCHAIR wp 3 on Risk Policies in the Face of Climate Change, principal Investigator: Sylvie Ollitrault CNRS Senior Researcher.
This project aims to contribute to answer to challenges of the exponential growth of risks and disasters linked to the combination of the impacts of climate change with human activities and their connection with major risks already present from many years. Works in this project have the ambition to analyze current methods of managing risks and disasters, to develop a new analysis and management framework to better deal with risks and multiple vulnerabilities, and to build inclusive governance mechanisms for a sustainable reduction of risks and disasters as well as to structure an interdisciplinary and international SHS community on risks and disasters. The hired person will work under the supervision of Soraya Boudia Head of PEPR Risques team and Sylvie Olltrault CNRS Senior Researcher, in the ISP laboratory in Nanterre, near Paris.
Mobility in France and overseas department and territories countries can be required (4-8 times per year).
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Additional Information
The risks associated with travel to some MENA countries will be assessed and administrative authorization will be required for each trip.
