Responsible of the design, building up and validation of an optical microscope for imaging and optogenetics photostimulation in depth.


-Design, build up and characterize a three-photon microscope for in vitro and in vivo functional imaging and photostimulation in depth.
- Validation of the system in proof of principle experiments (organotypic slice, in vivo mice)


-We are seeking a motivated candidate with a PhD in Physics, with a demonstrated experience in imaging, optical microscopy and wave front shaping willing to join an interdisciplinary environment involving strong interactions between biologists and physicists. The candidate should have experience in presenting data at international conferences and ability to synthesize and write scientific documents. A good knowledge of the English language is also required.

Work Context

The Vision Institute is an interdisciplinary research center affiliated with Sorbonne University, and supported by INSERM and CNRS. It is located on the Center campus
National Ophthalmology Hospital of XV-XX (CHNO of XV-XX). It was created in 2008 by Prof. Sahel, and currently directed by Dr Serge Picaud, with the aim of bridging university, private and clinical research. It is organized into 5 departments and 20 research teams.
The institute has facilities for the culture of cells and cultures of purified neurons. It also has a molecular biology facility for virus design, purification and production. It is equipped with a stereotactic injection facility for injecting AAV into the retina and brain of mice and an animal facility.
Emiliani's team includes about 20 people (5 researchers, 6 ITAs, 4 post docs, 6 students) has 8 state-of-the-art optical microscopes, including 3 systems for in vitro 2P-holographic photoactivation and electrophysiology, 2 systems for 2P holography/imaging and electrophysiology in vivo and 2 holographic endoscopes for 2P imaging and photoactivation in awake animals. They also recently received funding to set up a two-photon microscopy platform for optogenetic imaging and photostimulation in collaboration with the 3i company and a new optical microscope for in vivo 2P and 3P imaging and photostimulation.
The group is also equipped with an electromechanical workshop including a 3D printer for the manufacture of small microscope elements.
Ms. Emiliani is involved in the coordination of several national and international research projects. The team is strongly involved in the dissemination of scientific results to the general public and in participating in several training schools for doctoral students or young researchers.
