Missions
The proposed mission is part of the European MAGNETALLIEN project (ERC CoG 101086807), which aims to develop new spin electronics devices operating in the sub-Terahertz range (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101086807). These new devices will exploit the possibility, currently proposed theoretically, of generating AC spin currents with high harmonics.
Activités
The aim of the proposed projetc is to develop the entire microwave circuit (radio/microwave frequencies) in a recently acquired cryogenic vector field experimental device, in order to measure the high harmonic generation of spin-orbitronics devices excited by an RF magnetic field. More specifically, the cryostat insert is currently only equipped with four 40 GHz cryogenic RF cables. The successful candidate will first have to develop the support to be inserted at the end of the measurement insert in which the sample will be placed, and ensure its connection to the RF cables. Next, the successful candidate will have to design the RF circuit that will be lithographed onto the sample to enable excitation and detection at the spin-orbitron device. This part will involve the use of RF simulation software such as Comsol (RF modeling libraries). Finally, he/she will have to develop the RF acquisition chain including signal filtering and amplification to enable measurement with a fast oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer up to 40 GHz (already in the laboratory).
The candidate will develop his/her skills in microwave electronics and instrumentation by setting up an original and unique experimental device in a constrained environment (very low temperatures, limited space, etc.). He/she will gain initial experience in a research field requiring initiative and creativity.
Compétences
The candidate must have experience in RF electronics and instrumentation. He/she should have a good knowledge of RF technologies, such as amplifiers, delay lines, mixers, etc. The candidate should also have some experience of RF simulations. A good knowledge of LabVIEW or Python is an asset.
In addition, as the candidate will be interacting with different departments and external companies, fluency in English and French is required.
Contexte de travail
The selected candidate will work within the SPIN research group, Institute Jean Lamour, under the supervision of Dr. J. Carlos Rojas-Sánchez, and Dr. Sébastien Petit-Watelot. He/she will have to work in collaboration with various laboratory services such as the mechanical workshop, the electronics department and the purchasing service. The purchase of the various pieces of equipment needed to carry out the mission will be covered by the Magnet project funding.
The Institute Jean Lamour (IJL) is a joint research unit of CNRS and Université de Lorraine.
Focused on materials and processes science and engineering, it covers: materials, metallurgy, plasmas, surfaces, nanomaterials and electronics.
The IJL has 263 permanent staff (30 researchers, 134 teacher-researchers, 99 IT-BIATSS) and 394 non-permanent staff (182 doctoral students, 62 post-doctoral students / contractual researchers and more than 150 trainees), of 45 different nationalities.
Partnerships exist with 150 companies and our research groups collaborate with more than 30 countries throughout the world.
Its exceptional instrumental platforms are spread over 4 sites ; the main one is located on Artem campus in Nancy.
Nancy is a beautiful French city, with quick access to metropolises such as Paris, France.
The contract is renewable for a further 12 months.
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
