Missions

The CMS group at IPHC is actively involved in the construction of the CMS Tracker for the High-Luminosity LHC. Our primary responsibility is the integration of double-sided silicon sensors onto mechanical support structures (ladders), including the associated electrical, optical, and cooling services.
Between 2026 and 2027, approximately 3600 sensors (covering ~72 m² of silicon surface) will be installed and tested in a dedicated facility at IPHC. The laboratory is responsible for building and installing the three outermost layers (out of six) of the tracker barrel.
While engineers and technicians will handle the installation operations, the selected postdoctoral candidate, in collaboration with IPHC physicists, will work on module testing, including detector qualification and quality assurance.

Activités

The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to detector tests and qualification with strong emphasis on software-related developments, including:
- Development and automation of test and monitoring software
- Data acquisition and analysis including interfacing with databases
- Monitoring of the quality assurance

Compétences

- Experience with detector hardware and knowledge in silicon-based detectors
- Expertise in C++ and python programming
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in an international, collaborative environment
- English at least at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Contexte de travail

The Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert CURIEN (IPHC), a joint research unit under the joint supervision of CNRS and the University of Strasbourg (UMR7178), is a multidisciplinary laboratory where research teams from different scientific cultures (ecology, physiology and ethology, chemistry and subatomic physics) develop very high level programs based on scientific instrumentation. The IPHC is structured into 4 departments and has a total staff of 393 staff including 257 permanent staff (ie 119 researchers and teachers / researchers and 138 engineers and technicians), 46 staff on fixed-term contracts and 102 doctoral students.
This research activity will be carried out within the CMS team, which is right now composed of 12 permanent researchers, 4 PhD students, and 10 engineers. The recruited person will be placed under the responsibility of Anne-Catherine Le Bihan.

IPHC has been a member of the CMS experiment since its inception, with activities spanning both instrumentation and the data analysis (Higgs physics and searches for Beyond the Standard Model phenomena).
The group is in charge of the construction of the outer barrel mechanical structure of the CMS tracker, the integration of silicon detectors onto ladders at IPHC, as well as participation in assembly and commissioning activities at CERN.
The candidate (M/F) will have access to a staff restaurant, partial reimbursement of transportation costs, a works council, the possibility of teleworking one to two days per week for some activities, subject to the agreement of the CMS team manager, and training to adapt to the job.
