Missions
Analysis and evaluation of geochemical data as part of the ANR COR-Resilience program. This involves processing and interpreting data already acquired from elemental and isotopic measurements taken from coral cores of the Porites and Diploastrea genera in the Indian Ocean, particularly those taken around Mayotte, Juan de Nova, and Europa.
Activités
Using existing data sets stored in Excel spreadsheets, data analysis (trace elements & stable isotopes) will be carried out in order to reconstruct the interannual and decadal variability of temperatures and the chemistry of carbonates in coral calcification fluids over the last century for the sites studied. Once the calculations have been performed using existing proxies and calibration curves and appropriate computer tools, the data will be interpreted and the reconstructed environmental data will be compared with the evolution of the growth parameters of the corals studied (data also acquired). A comparative analysis of the response of each genus will be considered, taking into account the biomineralization processes currently known in the literature for tropical corals. Statistical analysis or modeling tools could be implemented in collaboration with experts from the COR-Resilience program. Finally, the activity will focus on writing scientific articles with the aim of submitting them for publication. Ideally, the goal is to write two articles.
Compétences
The candidate must hold a PhD in Climate and Environmental Sciences with 1 to 2 years of postdoctoral experience and possess the following skills:
- Expertise in marine biogeochemistry in tropical environments and climatology
- Knowledge of ocean carbonate chemistry
- Knowledge of coral biology, calcification properties, and bioerosion
- Computer tools for data processing (Excel, R, Python, etc.)
- Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Independence, rigor, and analytical and writing skills
- Spoken and written English
Contexte de travail
This position is part of the COR-Resilience program, and the successful candidate will work directly with experts from the laboratories involved in the program. This includes Florence Le Cornec (LOCEAN), Dr. Eric Douville (LSCE), and Dr. Paolo Montagna (CNR - Bologna, Italy) for the analysis of geochemical data from the corals studied, and Myriam Khodri (LOCEAN) & Marion Gehlen (LSCE) for the “modeling” component and statistical data processing tools, as well as for their expertise in paleoclimatology and marine biogeochemistry.
Contraintes et risques
The risks identified are low and mainly related to the use of computing tools.
The person will be able to work remotely to facilitate their analysis and writing work, but will be required to spend the legally stipulated amount of time at LOCEAN, their affiliated laboratory, and to travel to the LSCE (one week per month) in order to facilitate the progress of the desired work in collaboration with the researchers concerned.
