Job Description
Missions
- Lead the design, deployment, implementation, and evolution of hardware and software architectures for glider piloting and the processing of the collected data; implement and coordinate the human resources required, and ensure the consistency and sustainability of the overall IT resources ;
- Optimize and standardize the acquisition phases of oceanographic data, notably from gliders operated under PING (Parc Instrumental National de Gliders), and process data in real time and delayed mode, within a national, European, and global organizational frameworks;
- More broadly coordinate the processing of field oceanographic data for the benefit of the laboratory's teams involved in at-sea observation, notably developing processing chains adapted to the different sensors/platforms for their scientific use;
- Oversee the compliance of acquired metadata and data for distribution to the national and international community in accordance with current standards;
- Participate in working groups that coordinate and develop acquisition protocols, standards, data management and analysis tools at the national, European, and global levels;
- Ensure consistency with the evolution of instrumentation and developments carried out within the laboratory.
Activity
- Participate in the development and monitoring of the shared platform used by French laboratories for glider piloting and data processing;
- Take charge of designing and implementing tools suited to the quality control, processing, and validation of data acquired by gliders, as well as by various sensors/platforms during oceanographic or opportunity cruises, or from other autonomous platforms (buoys, floats, moorings, drones), in coordination with the laboratory's technical teams and in dialogue with users at the national, European, and global levels;
- Take charge of upgrading processing tools developed in line with technical developments in instrumentation;
- Coordinate the monitoring, documentation, dissemination, and access to all at-sea data processing tools and/or methods developed within the laboratory; monitor relevant tools developed outside the laboratory's teams;
- Ensure responsibility for the archiving and distribution of validated data in accordance with current national and international rules;
- Work with the laboratory's teams to develop the most relevant data acquisition protocols, taking instrumental specifications into account;
- Occasionally participate in data collection during oceanographic or opportunity cruises, or from autonomous platforms.

Your Work Environment
LOCEAN (Laboratoire d'Océanographie et du Climat: Expérimentations et Approches Numériques) has long-standing expertise in the field of at-sea observation. The laboratory develops its "at-sea observation" component within interdisciplinary projects and international observation networks (OceanGliders, GOSUD, OceanSites, Argo, etc.) and European networks (EuroArgo, EMSO, ICOS, etc.), and relies at the national level on accredited observation services and research infrastructures (MOOSE, PIRATA, OISO, etc.). This "at-sea observation" component includes the laboratory's participation in numerous embarked oceanographic and opportunity cruises, as well as the deployment of instrumentation on autonomous platforms (gliders, moorings, floats, buoys, etc.). It relies, during development phases and then for measurement campaigns, on a multidisciplinary team dedicated to instrumentation and marine techniques. Following on from the acquisition of these in situ measurements, producing qualified, standardized oceanographic datasets and ensuring their continuity within observatories are essential points guaranteeing their scientific use.
The successful candidate will work within the VOG team (Variabilité Océan, Glace – Ocean and Ice Variability) in close collaboration with the laboratory's other teams, notably DITM (Développement Instrumental et Techniques Marines – Instrumental Development and Marine Techniques), occasionally joining cruises to help implement best practices across the entire data production chain.
Constraints and risks
Constraints and risks associated with oceanographic embarkations (travel, irregular hours, fieldwork, etc.)
