Job Description
Missions
These missions are part of the PEPR ORIGIN RADEX project (PI: Frédéric Girault). This project involves, in particular, measuring the radon source term in reference samples and conventional extraterrestrial samples, such as meteorites, as well as more valuable samples, such as certain samples returned by lunar missions. This will involve directly applying the measurement techniques developed in close collaboration with the CEA/LNHB (Benoit Sabot) and the IRAP (Pierre-Yves Meslin) in recent years, and leveraging the active collaboration with the MNHN and the French extraterrestrial sample curation program (Jean Duprat).
Activity
The postdoctoral fellow's work will involve the direct application of techniques developed for characterizing radon emission from extraterrestrial samples to low-mass and low-radon-emitter samples under space conditions. These techniques include, in particular, gamma-ray spectrometry, radon emanation (liquid scintillation), and adsorption. The postdoctoral fellow will have access to the team's laboratory and will collaborate with teams from the CEA/LNHB, IRAP, and MNHN.
Your Profil
Skills
- Specific training: Radioactivity metrology (gamma spectrometry, liquid scintillation), Handling of sensitive samples, Experience in writing scientific articles
- Computer tools: Gamma-Spectrum Analysis, Python, LaTeX
- Professional qualities: Expertise in Radioactivity, Autonomy, Teamwork and Collaboration
Your Work Environment
The institut de physique du globe de Paris :
A world-renowned geosciences organisation, the IPGP is associated with the CNRS and an integrated institute of the Université Paris Cité. Bringing together more than 500 people, the IPGP studies the Earth and the planets from the core to the most superficial fluid envelopes, through observation, experimentation and modelling.
The research aeras are structured through 4 main unifying themes: Interiors of the Earth and Planets, Natural Hazards, Earth System and Origins.
The IPGP is in charge of labelled observation services in volcanology, seismology, magnetism, gravimetry and erosion. And the IPGP's permanent observatories monitor the four active French overseas volcanoes in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion Island and Mayotte.
The IPGP hosts powerful computing resources and state-of-the-art experimental and analytical facilities and benefits from first-class technical support. The IPGP provides its students with geosciences training that combine observation, quantitative analysis and modelling, and that reflects the quality, richness and thematic diversity of the research conducted by the IPGP teams.
Team Department :
The LOMs team has been involved in the measurement of environmental radioactivity for many years, particularly in the development of methods for measuring the radon source term in porous samples, as well as in the measurement of radon and radium in the environment. In recent years, the team has also been studying radon emissions from extraterrestrial samples (meteorites).
