Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will work with Rafael Alves Batista on topics related to the Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND).
GRAND aims at detecting ultra-high energy particles via a set of around 20 sites of antenna arrays of 10,000 km2 each, covering a total area of over 200,000 km2 by the 2030s. This unique experiment plans to reach ambitious sensitivity and angular resolution to launch multi-messenger ultra-high-energy astronomy, focussing on ultra-high-energy neutrinos. A design has been proposed for the GRAND detector and the instrumentation and trigger system, as well as the data analysis are being tested, calibrated and optimised with 3 prototypes, in France (GRAND@Nançay), Argentina (GRAND@Auger) and China (GRANDProto300).
The research activities should be related to the science that can be done with GRAND, broadly defined, including (but not restricted to): high-energy neutrino and cosmic-ray astrophysics, time-domain astronomy, multimessenger alerts, and radio detection of air showers.
Activity
The person will focus on at least one (ideally several) of the following areas:
- Enhancing GRAND's capabilities for detecting ultra-high-energy (UHE) neutrinos
- Investigating the transition between Galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays, and evaluating GRANDProto300's performance
- Analyse data of GRANDProto300 and the other existing prototypes
- Improving the reconstruction of air showers using radio signals alone
- Developing advanced strategies for discriminating the mass composition of cosmic rays using radio measurements
- Exploring novel antenna designs and configurations to enhance detection sensitivity
- Creating a pipeline for issuing alerts to partner observatories through multi-messenger networks
- Search for signals of physics beyond the Standard Model with GRANDProto300
Your Profil
Skills
The person to be hired should have experience in experimental and/or theoretical astroparticle physics or multi-messenger astrophysics, but n than 7 years after the PhD. They should be able to work well within a collaboration.
Strong coding skills (e.g., C++, Julia, Python) are mandatory, considering that most activities involve code developing and/or analysis o datasets.
Your Work Environment
The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the thriving GRAND-Paris Team, which gathers more than 20 members among permanent researchers, engineers, postdocs, PhD students and interns, working on various aspects of the GRAND experiment.
