Job Description
Missions
The Paris Institute of Astrophysics (IAP) is opening a two-year postdoctoral researcher position as part of the WRAPS project, funded by the ANR and dedicated to the study of rings around exoplanets. The successful candidate will join the IAP “exoplanets” team and will work with Guillaume Hébrard and Alain Lecavelier des Étangs on work package P2, entitled “Exploring the diversity of photometric transits of exo-rings”. The team offers a stimulating research environment, with active programs for the detection and characterization of exoplanets by radial velocity measurements and transits or the study of exocomets by photometry and spectroscopy.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will develop numerical models of transit light curves for planets with rings, studying how ring geometry, particle properties and orbital configuration influence their photometric signatures. She/he will also contribute to the analysis of photometric data from ESA's PLATO mission (scheduled for launch in March or April 2027), focusing on the search and characterization of exo-ring signatures.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidates must hold a PhD in astrophysics or a related field and possess research experience in exoplanets, preferably in photometry and the analysis of transit light curves. Strong programming and numerical modeling skills are required; experience with space-based photometric datasets, statistical inference, or machine learning would be an asset.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research independently and collaborate closely with the IAP team and the entire WRAPS consortium. He/she may also contribute to the team's other programs.
