Job Description
Missions
* Predict the long-term evolution of thin galactic discs using field-theoretical methods to regularise eccentricity diffusion in this regime.
* Compute the time-dependent response of a disc composed of stars and gas.
Activity
* Validate the theoretical predictions by directly comparing them with measurements from numerical simulations, and refine the approximations by accounting for the spontaneous amplification of tidal fluctuations through resonant trapping.
* Measure the full width at half maximum of spiral structures in the gaseous disc as a function of the galaxy's global geometry.
Your Profil
Skills
* PhD-level expertise in astrophysics.
* Excellent knowledge of theoretical galactic dynamics and kinetic theory.
Your Work Environment
The project will be carried out at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris, in collaboration with the teams of Christophe Pichon and Jean-Baptiste Fouvry, funded by the ANR projects GALBAR and BeyondBL https://www.secular-bars.org/, https://beyondbl.secular-evolution.org
The position is for a period of 6 months, with a starting date in early November 2026.
