Job Description
Missions
The goal of this postdoctoral project is to identify secondary aerosols produced during toxic microalgae (dinoflagellate) blooms in coastal environments. The nature and fluxes of these secondary aerosols will be determined using natural communities incubated in closed systems connected to an API-TOF-MS, enabling real-time aerosol detection. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with a multidisciplinary team—comprising an ecologist, an oceanographer, an atmospheric chemist, and a toxicologist—to interpret the resulting data.
Activity
* Responsible for the preparation and smooth operation of an API-ToF-MS during a one-month field campaign (calibration, setup, shipping, maintenance)
* Conducting experiments during the field campaign (managing the API-ToF-MS and data acquisition)
* Interpreting data in conjunction with results from other collaborators (VOC, primary aerosol, toxicology, and water chemistry data)
* Writing a high-impact (Rank A) research paper
Your Profil
Skills
PhD in atmospheric physical chemistry
Proficiency with API-TOF-MS instrumentation and associated data processing
Ability to analyze complex data
Experience in writing scientific publications
Ability to integrate into and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (oceanographer, atmospheric chemists, ecologist, and toxicologist)
Your Work Environment
The position is funded by the ERC UNIVOC project (2026–2031), led by LOV, and will center on a field campaign in the French Basque Country during June and July 2027, in which the postdoctoral researcher will be heavily involved. A preparatory phase for experimental tools is scheduled prior to the field campaign, during which the postdoctoral researcher will join Karine Sellegri's laboratory in Clermont-Ferrand. Following the campaign, the postdoctoral researcher will be based at the Laboratoire d'Océanographie de Villefranche alongside the rest of the UNIVOC project team.
Constraints and risks
A field campaign is scheduled from mid-June to mid-July 2027, requiring daily attendance—including weekends—and extended working hours during this period.
Work involves microalgae that cause respiratory symptoms; the use of appropriate masks is mandatory during field experiments.
