Missions
Our team is looking for a talented and motivated postdoc to work on microRNA detection technologies. The postdoctoral position, funded by an ERC starting grant (MoP-MiP), is open at the Gulliver laboratory (ESPCI Paris, PSL Research University). The project aims at combining molecular programming concepts, microfluidics and DNA sequencing readout to build the next generation of microRNA detection assays.
Activités
MicroRNAs are short endogenous RNA strands that finely tune gene expression by post-transcriptional regulation. Stably released in bodily fluids, these are foreseen as promising liquid biopsies biomarkers in a wide range of clinical applications. Analytical challenges, however, remain to be tackled, including sensitivity, specificity, multiplexing and quantification.
The successful candidate will focus on an original methodology that perform digital and multiplex microRNA detection. The workflow implies microparticle functionalization with DNA strands, droplet microfluidics and next gen sequencing. The candidate will build on the strong expertise of the laboratory on the conception and assembly of molecular programs made out of DNA oligonucleotides and enzymes, and capable of information-processing. The research activities imply:
- Literature review and data compiling
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to validate the developed methods
- Present research findings at scientific conferences and publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals
- Collaborate with other researchers in the lab and participate in lab meetings and discussions
- Scientific communication (writing of scientific publications, conference attendance)
Compétences
The ideal candidate should possess a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field. In addition, the candidate is expected to have a strong foundation in standard molecular biology techniques, including enzymatic assays, DNA amplification, RNA extraction, microscopy, and other relevant methods. Previous experience in next-generation sequencing, including library preparation and data analysis, is also required.
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English are of prime importance for this position. The successful candidate should be able to navigate in a highly interdisciplinary environment, possess independent thinking, and work well in a team. Although prior experience in the field of droplet microfluidics is not required, it will be a plus. Additionally, proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Mathematica will be considered.
