Missions

Explore the ways of improving the geological model with the geophysical data and thus ultimately make it possible to achieve a 3D Common Earth Model.
Develop a quantitative methodology to assess the relevance of a subsurface model when compared to geophysical data.

Activities

- Set up and combine the computational tools necessary for geophysical data simulation from petrophysical models.
- Develop a scoring strategy to assess the consistency of a geological or petrophysical model with the geophysical data.
- Test the strategy on synthetic then real data sets.
- Exchange with partners on the validity of the chosen strategy.

Skills

- Experience in electromagnetic and/or DC resistivity imaging
- Solid understanding of forward modeling and inversion methods
- Experience in programming, especially numerical and computational methods
- Exposure to mineral exploration, geological modeling, logging or petrophysics.
- Taste for multi-disciplinary teamwork, self-starter, keen to propose new ideas.

Work Context

Institut Terre et Environnement de Strasbourg (ITES, ites.unistra.fr) is a laboratory (UMR7063) supported by CNRS, the University of Strasbourg and ENGEES. Its research activities focus on the study of the Earth and its surface environment through four disciplines: Hydrology, Geochemistry, Geology et Geophysics. ITES hosts seven research teams totaling over 200 scientists and support staff.
The successful applicant will be based in the Experimental Geophysics team that consists of 12 full-time faculty active in Applied Geophysics, Rock Physics and Mechanics of Complex Media.
The research project is within a partnership between Université de Lorraine, ITES and Orano Mining. Expect several and visits to the partners.
