This project is part of our research programme dedicated to the optimisation of plasmodione and its superior analogue (bMD40) displaying potent antimalarial redox properties. It includes the development of methodologies allowing the introduction of groups improving the bioavailability of plasmodione, the direct functionalisation of the starting skeleton and the construction of substituted heterocyclic molecules (pyridines, oxetanes, aza-spiroalkanes...) by Suzuki-type pallado-catalysed coupling reactions. The postdoc will be in charge of experimental work, characterizations and analyses (NMR, HPLC...), writing scientific reports and will benefit from an international research environment.


Development of original methodologies in order to remove synthetic barriers and synthesise a library of derivatives of the lead molecules

The candidate must have a PhD in organic chemistry. He/she should have a strong background in organic synthesis and synthetic methodologies, and knowledge of medicinal chemistry. Experience in medicinal chemistry (oxetanes, heterocycles) will be an asset. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated researcher who is committed to the project. In addition, the candidate should have good communication skills and a good team spirit

Work Context

The postdoctoral researcher will work in the "Bio(IN)organic and Medicinal Chemistry" team (UMR 7042 CNRS), headed by Dr Elisabeth Davioud-Charvet. This team develops projects in redox medicinal chemistry to combat several pathogenic parasites in humans. The team includes a physicochemistry research platform supported by an Engineer. In addition to 2 CNRS research directors and 1 CNRS Engineer, the group includes about 2 PhD students and 2 post-doctoral researchers. The laboratory is located at the European School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials (ECPM) in Strasbourg (CNRS, Universities of Strasbourg and Haute-Alsace) in France.
The researcher will work with the students and post-docs under the supervision of the project leader (Dr Elisabeth Davioud-Charvet, DR CNRS). His/her research work will be dedicated to the development of new lead transformations and to the elaboration of new strategies for the synthesis of heterocyclic molecules of interest in order to significantly improve their pharmacokinetic properties.
The strengths of the "Bio(IN)organic and Medicinal Chemistry" team lie in the complementarity of skills at the interface of chemistry/enzymology/physicochemistry within the team, the diversity of the teams and expertise that make up the research unit Laboratoire d'Innovation Moléculaire et Applications (LIMA), the international recognition of the team and of LIMA, the numerous academic and industrial collaborations, and the technological development, innovation and transfer actions.
The team is also attractive for future young researchers wishing to apply for a tenure researcher position at the CNRS thanks to the multiple training opportunities it offers based on its expertise and know-how in terms of design, analysis and discovery of future drugs.
