Missions

A researcher position is open for a period of one year (renewable for 1 year) within the Waves & Imaging team of the Laboratory of Mechanics and Acoustics of Marseille. The mission concerns the numerical and theoretical study of the transition between diffusion and localization of waves in strongly diffracting elastic media.

Activités

Depending on the candidate's profile, several activities will be considered :
- Asymptotic analysis, as in classical homogenization in mechanics, but considering quadratic observables, and in the particular case of waveguides (e.g., surface waves in a 2D half-space).
- Extension of asymptotic analysis to the 3D case.
- Comparison of asymptotic results with high-performance 3D computations.
- Extension of the localization landscape method, a recently developed numerical technique for identifying the initiation of localization, to realistic engineering applications.

Compétences

Candidates should hold a PhD in theoretical mechanics, computational mechanics or applied mathematics, preferably in the field of wave propagation, dynamics, vibrations, or acoustics. Skills in stochastic mechanics or propagation in random media will be appreciated, but not required. From a computer science perspective, the candidate should at least be proficient in one of Matlab, Python, or similar languages.

Contexte de travail

The project will involve collaboration with colleagues from the railway industry, who will provide measurements of wave propagation through crushed stone barriers. The recruited person will work in collaboration with several researchers from the LMA laboratory.

Contraintes et risques

The research results are expected to be presented at conferences, possibly internationally.
