Missions

The agent will be part of a project funded by the ANR (PHYSAP) which is interdisciplinary between three institutes (INPHYNI Nice, PIAF Clermont-Ferrand, LIPHY Grenoble) on the study of the physics of sap ascent in trees, the formation and propagation of cavitation bubbles in the various conductive elements of the hydraulic network. It will mainly consist in developing the experimental approach of plant biomimetic systems as well as modeling the observed phenomena.

Activités

The candidate will carry out experiments on microfabricated biomimetic artificial systems that he/she will have developed based on the expertise of the MIMIC team. He/she will study the propagation of gas embolisms occurring under the effect of drought under both positive and negative pressures, highlighting the fundamental differences between the vaious mechanisms. He/she will analyze the results, produce oral and written reports, participate in the production of scientific publications and lead his project independently.

Compétences

The candidate must have a good knowledge of soft matter physics, liquid physics and possibly biophysics. Skills in experimental physics are expected (fast imaging, image analysis, microscopy...). More specific skills in acoustics and/or microfabrication will be a plus. Specific internal training may be offered.

Contexte de travail

The institute brings together around a hundred permanent staff who have been on the same site since the beginning of 2023 (Plaine du Var in Nice). INPHYNI's activities are structured along three main axes, 1) Waves and quantum physics, 2) Photonics, and 3) Nonlinear physics, complex fluids and biophysics. The projects developed through these areas cover theoretical, experimental and fundamental aspects as well as applications, benefiting in particular from the capacities and support of high-performance technological platforms as well as efficient common, administrative and technical services. The candidate will be integrated into the MIMIC team which is part of axis 3) of the institute. He/she will work in collaboration with the PIAF (Clermont-Ferrand) and LIPHY (Grenoble) laboratories as part of the ANR PHYSAP project.
