Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will develop an experimental and/or numerical activity for the study of the superpropulsion phenomenon. In particular, he/she will study the application of this phenomenon to elongated elastic objects.
The phenomenon of superpropulsion has made it possible to highlight a new strategy for imparting maximum energy to a projectile during its launch or ejection. The idea is to take advantage of the deformability of the projectile to make it resonant with the launcher or the ejection device. The kinetic energy imparted can thus be multiplied by a factor of four for cylindrical projectiles with low aspect ratio.
We are now interested in high aspect ratio projectiles such as arrows or beams. For these objects, we seek to see if the lateral deformations of the bending type, which can appear during the acceleration of the projectile, can contribute to increase the efficiency of the throw. In particular, we seek to answer the following questions:
* what are the conditions to obtain a bending-type deformation during a harmonic solicitation?
* How to study such a phenomenon in experiment and simulation?
* What are the conditions to obtain a maximum ejection speed?
* What is the value of the maximum velocity reached in these conditions?
Activités
* To improve the current device used to accelerate a projectile under controlled conditions.
* Analyze the images and use a tracking algorithm to follow the acceleration of the projectiles.
* Extract relevant data and compare the results to models.
* Develop a numerical approach for comparison to experiments.
* Write papers.

The candidate should have a PhD in Physics.
Excellent knowledge in mechanics (elasticity, waves, instability) is required.
Skills in image analysis and programming are required.
He/she should be able to write scientific publications in English.
Contexte de travail
The candidate will be integrated in the Complex Fluids team of the Institut de Physique de Nice. The team is composed of about 15 researchers working on topics between the physics and the mechanics of soft matter with both experimental and numerical approaches.
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
