Job Description
Missions
This postdoctoral project aims at analyzing collective dissipative dynamics in quantum emitter systems (such as cold atoms) strongly coupled to a driven cavity, while accounting for motion-related degrees of freedom. The focus will be on developing theoretical models and numerical tools (master equations, quantum trajectory simulations) to investigate coupling regimes, dynamical phase transitions, and the effects of collective dissipation on coherence and entanglement.
Activity
- Theoretical and Analytical Studies: Conduct theoretical and numerical analyses of superradiant molecular ensemble models, with thorough documentation of processes and results.
- Simulation Code Development: Design and maintain open numerical simulation codes to model these systems.
- Scientific Collaboration: Collaborate with team members on this project and related research initiatives.
- Dissemination of Results: Author scientific articles for international journals and present findings at conferences.
- Group Representation: Represent the research group at major international scientific events.
- Mentoring: Supervise young researchers and students within the team.
- Independent Research: Develop and lead independent research projects.
Your Profil
Skills
Knowledge Requirements: The candidate (M/F) must have a strong background in advanced quantum mechanics, with a PhD in theoretical physics. A solid understanding of quantum optics and the physics of interacting many-body quantum systems is essential. Familiarity with numerical simulation techniques for many-body quantum models is also required.
Skill Requirements: The candidate (M/F) must demonstrate proficiency in advanced scientific programming (preferably in C++ or Julia). Experience in scientific publishing and presenting research findings is mandatory. As the research project will be conducted entirely in an English-speaking environment, fluent written and spoken English (CEFR level C1–C2) is required.
Team Integration: The candidate (M/F) is expected to integrate into the research team, engage socially with other members, share ideas, and mentor junior researchers or students.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate (M/F) will work as a postdoctoral researcher at the "Laboratory of Computational Quantum Theory of Many-Body Systems" (cqmt.org) within the "European Center for Quantum Sciences (CESQ)" (cesq.eu) in Strasbourg, France.
The CESQ is a transnational hub for research and education in quantum sciences, affiliated with the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS. It builds on Strasbourg's long-standing tradition of interdisciplinary research, spanning quantum physics, chemistry, materials science, photonics, and computer science. The CESQ provides a collaborative, innovative environment that bridges cutting-edge experimental and theoretical research. It is part of the interdisciplinary institute of excellence "ISIS – Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering" (UMR 7006).
The offices are located on the Cronenbourg campus in Strasbourg, a green and vibrant campus just minutes from the city center by public transport. The campus not only offers an excellent working environment but also provides sports facilities and an affordable university cafeteria.
