Job Description

Missions

The objective of the COSMOSAT project (PEPR ORIGINS) is to develop a new generation of Atom Probe, instrument non-existent at present. This instrument will be unique on a worldewide scale and will be optimized and dedicated to the analysis of cosmochemical samples thanks to the partnership between the GPM of Rouen, the only university French laboratory to develop its own instruments, and CAMECA, the only (French) company to market this type of instrument. The recruited researcher will have in charge the metrological qualification and of the optimization of the prototype under development on standards.

The researcher will have in charge the optimization of the prototype under development with tasks concerning
- Tests and optimisation of the laser pulsing capabilities on standard materials.
- Tests and optimisation of the detection system (hardware and software optimisation). Metrological performances of the instrument in term of elemental quantification
- Experimental analyses on geological materials (performance evaluation)

Activity

- Hardware tests of different subparts (detectors / laser pulsing units / focusing units / UHV pumping // Software optimisation of the prototype and acquisition system
- Experimental analysis on the instrument // Tests and evaluations and optimisation of performances of the instrument
- Scientific production (articles and communications in scientific congress…)

Your Work Environment

The GPM (Group of Physics of Materials, UMR CNRS 6634) is structured in 5 departments: Metallurgy Microstructures Mechanics, Scientific Instrumentation, Functional Materials and Nanostructures, Disordered Systems and Polymers, Thematic Openings and Innovations.
It brings together 135 staff including 55 Teachers-Researchers, 30 ITAs and 50 PhD students / PostDoct and Trainees. The laboratory is located on the Campus of Sciences and Engineering Rouen Normandy (in Saint Etienne du Rouvray), in the University of Rouen Normandy and INSA Rouen Normandy (7000m2).

The recruited researcher (M/F) will be attached to the Scientific Instrumentation Department of the GPM, whose core business is the development of the Tomographic Atomic Probe, an instrument for nanoanalysis of materials, whose manager is François Vurpillot, (N+1 of the recruited researcher). The researcher will be integrated into the COSMOSAT project development team (F. Vurpillot, G. Da Costa, J. Houard, F. Danoix)

The Scientific Instrumentation Department is recognized as an international leader in the development of materials nano-analysis instruments, among them the Atom Probe Tomography (APT) technique (unique lab to develop this technic in France). The department is composed of 9 prof/researchers and 6 engineers, and trains approximately 3 new doctoral students per year who become nationally and internationally recognized specialists in this rapidly developing field.
