Job Description
Missions
In the framework of the Carnot ESP's MicroTeraSat project, the work (of the fixed-term contract researcher, in collaboration with the project team) involves developing an optical setup to generate high-frequency terahertz (THz) pulses using a two-color plasma in air. These pulses will then be characterized and coupled to the atom probe tomography chamber, ensuring that the THz wavelengths are focused on the nanoscale sample. The work will aim to optimize atom-probe results on poor electrical samples such as nanostructured materials like InGaN/GaN quantum wells.
Activity
Atom Probe Tomography (APT) is an advanced characterization technique with very high spatial resolution that enables three-dimensional analytical imaging of materials at the atomic scale. The use of THz sources improves the quality of atom-probe results for metallic materials. For non-metallic materials, a THz source with a higher repetition rate and higher energy is necessary to enable the analysis of bandgap materials and also improve chemical composition measurements.
The first task will involve building a high-repetition-rate THz photon source based on plasma generation in air using a infrared laser and its second harmonic. The recruited researcher will be assisted in this development by the department's research engineers.
The second task will involve coupling the THz source to a APT chamber to analyze bandgap materials (primary task) in order to explore the evaporation process induced by these high-energy photons and thus evaluate their potential for improving SAT performance (secondary task).
- Set up an optical setup to generate high-frequency THz source through the generation of a two-color plasma in air
- Focus THz light onto a nanoscale sample inside the atomic probe chamber under high vacuum.
- Preparation of atom probe samples
- Analysis and interpretation of data
- Participation in project meetings
- Contribution to the drafting of deliverables
- Writing scientific articles
Your Profil
Skills
- Strong knowledge in optics, non-linear optics and laser-matter interactions
- Previous experience in development of THz sources will be highly appreciated.
- Previous experience with atom probe microscopy is highly desirable.
- Technical skills required in non-linear optics and/or electron microscopy and/or atom probe tomography
- Independent work
- Team work
Your Work Environment
The GPM (Group of Physics of Materials, UMR CNRS 6634) is structured in 5 departments: Metallurgy Microstructures Mechanics, Scientific Instrumentation, Functional Materials and Nanostructures, Disordered Systems and Polymers, Thematic Openings and Innovations.
It brings together 140 staff including 56 Teachers-Researchers, 33 ITAs and 51 PhD students / PostDoct and Trainees. The laboratory is located on the Campus of Sciences and Engineering Rouen Normandy (in Saint Etienne du Rouvray), in the University of Rouen Normandy and INSA Rouen Normandy (7000m2).
The recruited researcher will be attached to the Instrumentation Department, Research Team in Correlative and in-situ microscopies / Methodologies (5 teacher-researchers / researcher, 2 IR, PhD students and fixed-term researcher), and will be required to collaborate with the research teams of Department “Functional Materials and Nanostructures”.
