Missions

The development of compact pulsed laser sources covering the mid-infrared range is attracting growing interest from the scientific community due to the numerous applications expected, particularly in spectroscopy, imaging and strong field physics. In this context, CORIA's Department of Optics and Lasers (DOL) is exploring different approaches to develop ultrafast laser sources emitting in the mid-infrared. These approaches combine ultrafast lasers based on erbium-doped fluoride glass fibres emitting around 3 µm with nonlinear frequency converters based on optical fibres or semiconductor waveguides.
The MIRLAS project aims to pursue these efforts with a view to developing high-performance ultrafast fibre lasers emitting in the mid-infrared, with two main objectives. The first objective is to explore new mode-locking processes combined with new active fibres to develop robust ultrafast sources emitting well beyond the 3 µm barrier. The second objective will focus on integrating these sources by developing optical components based on fluoride glass fibres. The project will exploit the resources available in the RENADIAG and PNMO facilities to develop innovative fibre components for mid-infrared fibre lasers. The exploration of several applications in advanced laser diagnostics using innovative laser sources in the mid-infrared based on ultra-short pulse lasers coupled to frequency conversion devices is also planned, in particular for the study of catalytic molecules or fluids in the supercritical regime. The work of the engineer recruited will then consist of designing, implementing and characterising ultrafast fibre lasers in the mid-infrared, as well as mastering the production of fibre components. High-impact results are expected in both areas of this work and through several scientific collaborations.

Activités

The engineer's work will revolve around the following activities:
- Design, realization and study of mid-infrared fiber lasers
- Development of soft-glass fiber components
- Development of monolithic fiber lasers

Compétences

The candidate must hold a master's or engineering degree in photonics or applied physics, with theoretical and experimental skills in laser physics and/or non-linear optics. The candidate must also be able to work as part of an international team and collaborate with other groups in the laboratory.

Contexte de travail

CORIA is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) affiliated with the Institute of Engineering and Systems (INSIS) of CNRS, the University of Rouen Normandy, and the Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Rouen Normandy. It is located at the Madrillet technopole, near Rouen. CORIA's research domains encompass both fundamental and applied studies in photonics, turbulence, atomization, and reactive flows. The recruited person will join the Optics and Lasers Department of CORIA.
The position falls within a sector related to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore, in accordance with regulations, your arrival must be authorized by the competent authority of MESR.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

As the position involves significant exposure to high-power lasers, the successful candidate will be required to complete laser safety training. In addition, short-term travel within France and abroad is expected.
