Job Description
Missions
The position will involve working on an ANR project in close collaboration with researchers from various disciplines to study the effect of water regime disturbances on the interactions between microbial hosts and their viruses in soil, and their impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes.
Activity
Using experiments conducted in both soil mesocosms and microcosms, this postdoctoral project aims to assess the effect of hydrological disturbances caused by climate change on interactions between microbial hosts and viruses, as well as their impact on GHG emissions. The project will rely on both molecular approaches to detect viruses and their microbial hosts, and analytical measurements of CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O emissions, combined with monitoring of soil physicochemical properties as a function of groundwater levels and cycles in mesocosms and soil water content in microcosms.
Your Profil
Skills
The position is for a term of 24 months and will be available starting in January 2027. Candidates must have spent at least 18 months outside of France since the 1st April 2023. We are seeking a highly motivated and interested candidate with training in microbial and/or viral ecology, and an interest in biogeochemical cycles. Strong knowledge of statistics is preferred. Experience with experimental work and molecular ecology methods is an asset. The candidate must demonstrate proven ability in independent scientific research and skills in writing scientific publications.
Desired skills:
- PhD in soil science / microbial and/or viral ecology
- Molecular biology
- Experiments in soil mesocosms and/or microcosms
- Strong knowledge of statistics
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- English proficiency at the B2 to C1 level and the ability to write scientific articles
Your Work Environment
The UMR ECOBIO (CNRS - University of Rennes), France, is offering a postdoctoral research position to study microbial host - virus interactions in wetland soils. ECOBIO offers a stimulating and dynamic research environment, as well as technical facilities and an experimental hall dedicated to molecular biology, microbiology, chemical ecology, and experimentation, providing all the resources needed to carry out the project. The successful candidate will join the “Ecosystem Functioning” research group (ECOFUN - https://ecobio.univ-rennes.fr/ecofun-diversity-interactions-processes) and will be supervised by Cécile Monard (CNRS Researcher) and Sébastien Gogo (CNAP, University of Rennes).
