The researcher will be required to carry out the measurements of downward flux of organic carbon associated to the biological carbon pump and the measurements of prokaryotic acitvites associated to marine snow. These measurements will be performed no samples collected using sediment traps and Marine Snow Catchers in the open ocean during sea going campaigns (see details below), to downward carbon flux measurements will be performed within the LEMAR lab. to carry out the measurements of prokaryotic activities will performed in collaboration with MIO Marseille. The postdoctoral researcher will be in charge of samples collection in the field, lab ananlysis, data processing and interpretation. A sea going campaign to the North Atlantic is planned (APERO summer 2023) as well as another one in collaboration with GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany.


the main activities will be : Sea going campaigns (deployements of sediment traps, marine snow catchers, collection of marine snow), laboratory analysis (particulate organic carbon, particulate nitrogen, imaging marine snow, prokaryotic activities), data processing of GENOMICS and interpretation. Production of scientific articles, presentation of results in international conferences.


Phd in marine biogeochemistry, ability and experience in field and laboratory work, work on marine snow, good knowledge of ocean biogeochemistry and microbiology, fluency in English, good knowledge of ocean biogeochemistry and microbiology, autonomy, teamwork.

Work Context

The person will work in the Lemar (Laboratory of Marine Environmental Sciences) located at the Institut Universitaire Européen de la Mer in Plouzané, mainly with the CHIBIDO team. 38h30/week

Constraints and risks

A few working trips to Marseille (2 per year max) will be planned; participation to international conferences; sea going campaigns (40 days onboard RV Pourquoi-Pas?, summer 2023 and another campaign in collaboration with GEOMAR).
