Job Description
Missions
We are seeking a research engineer to work on developing surface current observations based on satellite optical imagery using knowledge of surface wave dynamics.
The research engineer will be advised by Dr. Nicolas Rascle and will join the SIAM group specialized in satellite remote sensing of ocean waves, current and wind.
Activity
Novel observations of surface currents from optical imagery will be developed. As a first step, the research engineer will be in charge of:
• process the current fields from the satellite optical imagery,
• validate the data and quantify the uncertainties,
• disseminate the data on web portals,
• disseminate the python-based processing chains.
As a second step, the research engineer will explore improvements of the processing chain to retrieve more accurate current fields using more sophisticated representations of waves, current and instrument noise.
Your Profil
Skills
A pre-requisite is a PhD in physical oceanography, a demonstrated experience in surface wave dynamics and in data processing with python. For the second step, a research experience and a good publication record will be helpful.
Your Work Environment
The research engineer will join the LOPS unity, SIAM team in Plouzané, near Brest, France.
The initial appointment is full-time for one year with continuation for at least one additional year upon satisfactory progress.
